Therapeutic Perspective

I earned a Bachelor of Science from Western Michigan University, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Colorado Christian University.  Prior to starting my first practice in Colorado a number of years ago, I was Clinical Director of a nonprofit serving survivors of abuse.  As part of my graduate education, I was a counselor intern at a private residential facility for teens.  In addition to my counseling experience, I clinically supervised both Master of Arts in Counseling graduate student interns and practicing counselors working toward state licensure.

Therapeutically, I focus on helping individuals build on their strengths, while assisting them in learning skills to change the areas they would like to improve. I utilize CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) techniques with individuals who are seeking to gain more control over their thoughts and behaviors, which can also greatly diminish symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Additionally, I have extensive experience and training in working with survivors of abuse and trauma, including utilizing basic and advanced trainings in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).  I have found EMDR to be highly effective in processing abuse and trauma, both recent and early childhood, in order to help clients move past these painful experiences and live a fulfilling life.
